Nunatsiavut President Johannes Lampe today responded to the announcement by the Labrador Inuit Capital Strategy Trust (LICST) regarding Nunatsiavut Construction Inc. (NCI) winding down its operations.
“NCI has played a role in infrastructure work in Nunatsiavut and Upper Lake Melville, and many Inuit have contributed to that work,” said President Lampe. “We recognize the LICST’s decision and the need for a responsible transition.”
The President emphasized that the decision relates to NCI and does not affect other operations within the Nunatsiavut Group of Companies (NGC).
“NGC is a strong organization with a broad portfolio. This development is specific to NCI,” he said. “The Nunatsiavut Government supports NGC’s efforts to manage the transition in a way that prioritizes workers, community needs, and continuity of operations.”
The President added that the Nunatsiavut Government’s focus remains on long-term Inuit economic development, including supporting Inuit business capacity and the pursuit of strategic opportunities that advance Labrador Inuit interests.
