The Nunatsiavut Government is deeply saddened by the passing of Sharon Edmunds, a devoted public servant, respected colleague, and proud Labrador Inuk whose lifelong commitment to her people helped strengthen the foundations of Inuit self‑government in Labrador.

Ms. Edmunds dedicated her entire adult life to serving Labrador Inuit. Beginning her career at just 14 years old as a summer student, she went on to work for the Labrador Inuit Association and later the Nunatsiavut Government. Her work also extended to Memorial University, where she supported the Teacher Education Program in Labrador.

Throughout her decades of service, Ms. Edmunds carried a deep pride in the progress Inuit have made. She often spoke of witnessing Inuit learn, grow, and stand confidently in their own strength. She believed firmly in the wisdom of Inuit, in our ability to face challenges, and in the importance of building a better future for the generations to come.

Ms. Edmunds served in several roles within the Department of Health and Social Development beginning in 1999, and approached each position with dedication, compassion, and professionalism. Even as illness shaped her final years of work, she remained committed to contributing wherever she could. Upon her retirement, she expressed her desire to continue supporting Nunatsiavut through boards, committees, gatherings, and cultural ceremonies.

On behalf of all Beneficiaries of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement, the Nunatsiavut Government extends its deepest condolences to Sharon’s family, friends, and loved ones. We honour her life, her service, and her lasting contributions Labrador Inuit.
