Some 22 Beneficiaries of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement are among the 133 athletes and coaches attending the 10th North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) in Nova Scotia as part of Team Indigenous Newfoundland and Labrador.
Competitions will be held in 16 sports from July 15-23 in Halifax, Dartmouth and Millbrook First Nation.
“This is such a great opportunity for Beneficiaries to showcase our unique Inuit heritage and culture, and to learn about others as they compete against more than 750 other athletes,” says Nunatsiavut President Johannes Lampe. “We know you will proudly represent our homeland, and will come back winners no matter the competitive outcome.
The Nunatsiavut Government contributed $10,000 to Team Indigenous NL, through the Aboriginal Sport and Recreation Circle of NL, to assist Beneficiaries who are participating in the Games.
