The Nunatsiavut Government Department of Language, Culture & Tourism (LCT) is currently accepting applications for Language and Culture funding through the Indigenous Languages Component NG (ILCNG) program.

Historically, the ILC funds have been administered directly by the Department of Canadian Heritage to indigenous groups. This funding is now being distributed directly to the four Inuit Land Claims Regions for implementation.

This new Indigenous Languages Component funding through LCT will proceed as follows:

Eligible projects for the ILCNG funds include:

  • Cultural development & programs
  • Language development & programs
  • Conferences/gatherings for the advancement of Inuttitut & Culture
  • Leadership development toward Inuttitut & Culture
  • Life skills and wellness that incorporate the learning of Inuttitut and culture
  • Education and training for Inuttitut Instructors and teachers
  • Production and broadcast of radio, television, and programming for Inuttitut and cultural programming
  • Innovation and new technologies for Inuttitut and Cultural use
  • Consultation and coordination for Inuttitut and cultural activities
  • Research, studies, and community assessment for Inuttitut and Cultural activities
  • Management and administration for Inuttitut and Cultural activities

 

This program is available to registered Inuit Businesses and other organizations that provide Inuttitut Programming to support the reclamation, revitalization, and/or maintenance of Inuttitut for Nunatsiavut beneficiaries. Priority will be given to applicants within the Nunatsiavut region. Applications will also be selected from Upper Lake Melville and the Canadian Constituency.

Available Funding

100,000 dollars annually will be provided for the ILCNG funding. This will be divided amongst successful applicants. Applicants can apply for up to 50,000 dollars in funding. Applications will be accepted and reviewed twice a year. Deadlines are: March 31st and September 30th.

All applications will be reviewed by an Application Selection Committee. Applications will be reviewed on a monthly basis. The first review of applications will take place in February 2025.

The deadline to be considered in the first review is February 28, 2025 at 4:30pm.
