The Nunatsiavut Department of Language, Culture and Tourism is now accepting applications for language and culture funding through the Indigenous Languages Component Nunatsiavut Government (ILCNG) program. Historically, ILCNG funds have been administered directly by the Department of Canadian Heritage, but are now being distributed directly to Canada’s four Inuit Land Claims Organizations for implementation.
Eligible projects for funding:
- Cultural development and programs;
- Language development and programs;
- Conferences/gatherings for the advancement of Inuttitut and culture;
- Leadership development toward Inuttitut and culture;
- Life skills and wellness that incorporate the learning of Inuttitut and culture;
- Education and training for Inuttitut Instructors and teachers;
- Production and broadcast of radio, television, and programming for Inuttitut and cultural programming;
- Innovation and new technologies for Inuttitut and cultural use;
- Consultation and coordination for Inuttitut and cultural activities;
- Research, studies, and community assessment for Inuttitut and cultural activities; and
- Management and administration for Inuttitut and cultural activities.
This program is available to registered Inuit businesses and other organizations that provide Inuttitut programming to support the reclamation, revitalization, and/or maintenance of Inuttitut for Beneficiaries of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement. Priority will be given to applicants within the Labrador Inuit Settlement Area. Applications will also be accepted from Upper Lake Melville and the Constituency of Canada.
Available Funding:
- A total of $100,000 will be provided for the first year, to be divided among successful applicants.
- Applicants can apply for up to $50,000 in funding.
Applications will be accepted and reviewed twice a year. Deadlines are April 30 and September 30.

All applications will be reviewed by an Application Selection Committee on a bi-annual basis. The deadline to be considered in the first review is April 30, 2025, at 4:30 pm.
