December 1, 2025 will mark the 20th anniversary of the Nunatsiavut Government and the implementation of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement, making Nunatsiavut the first Inuit region in Canada to achieve self-governance.

The theme of this year’s anniversary, Inuit Voices, Inuit Vision, captures the essence of what the Nunatsiavut Government has stood for since its establishment: self-determination, cultural preservation, and political accountability rooted in Inuit values.

The Nunatsiavut Government has made tremendous strides over the past two decades – from implementing self-governance and preserving Inuit culture and way of life, to advancing sustainable development and improving health and social outcomes for Labrador Inuit. Significant advancements in housing, education, environmental stewardship, and economic growth have helped pave the way for future generations.

“The 20th anniversary theme reminds us of who we are, what we’ve overcome, and where we’re going as a government and as a people,” says Nunatsiavut President Johannes Lampe. “This year we celebrate our voices being heard and our vision being realized – not only for today, but for generations to come.”

A special anniversary logo will be used to promote this significant milestone, and events will take place in all Labrador Inuit communities leading up to December 1, including community feasts and gatherings, cultural performances and contests. All events will be posted to the Nunatsiavut Government Facebook page.
