Delegates are gathering today (October 1, 2024) in Hopedale for the annual Nunatsiavut Heritage Forum. This year’s theme is kinguvaKatinniuvut: kingullivinittinit, Ullumimut, amma Sivunitsatinut / Our Heritage: Past, Present, and Future.

The forum, which runs until Thursday, brings together Nunatsiavut Government officials, academics and researchers, as well as community groups and organizations. The agenda includes community sharing sessions, traditional skills workshops, conversations on Inuit materials in museum collections, discussions on archaeological sites and climate change, a show-and-share session of family heirlooms, and much more.

“The Nunatsiavut Government is pleased to once again put off this important event that works to preserve and protect the true heritage and culture of Labrador Inuit,” said David Dicker Jr., Minister of Language, Culture and Tourism. “Bringing together participants to discuss programming, to learn some Inuttitut, and to share our visions can only strengthen who we are and help us better prepare for the future.”
