Nunatsiavut President Johannes Lampe today extended his congratulation to Deantha Edmunds, a Beneficiary of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement, for her historic win this week at the 2025 Juno Awards.

Edmunds has become the first Indigenous woman composer to win a Juno Award for classical composition. Her success, says President Lampe, showcases the tremendous talent and passion that exists among Labrador Inuit.

“Deantha’s achievement is an inspiration to many. Her dedication and artistry not only highlight the rich cultural heritage of Labrador Inuit, but also pave the way for future generations of Indigenous artists,” says the President. “We are very proud of her accomplishment, and we look forward to seeing her continue to break barriers and achieve even greater heights in her career.”
