Nunatsiavut President Johannes Lampe today issued the following statement on the passing of former Innu Nation President David Nuke:
“On behalf of the Nunatsiavut Government and Beneficiaries of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement, I express my deepest condolences to those mourning the loss of Innu Elder David Nuke, who passed away on Sunday.
“David was no stranger to controversy. He stood by his convictions and fought tirelessly to protect the rights of the Labrador Innu. His legacy will be remembered for the impact he made on the Innu community, a testament to his unwavering determination in defending what he believed in. He will be sorely missed, but not forgotten.
“Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and the entire Labrador Innu community during this difficult time.”
