Nunatsiavut President Johannes Lampe extends his sincere condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Inuk Elder Emma Reelis on her passing.

“Emma was a highly respected Inuk Elder whose strength, wisdom, and commitment to serving others left a lasting impact on countless people. She dedicated her life to supporting youth, women, Indigenous peoples, and communities, and was a role model whose leadership and compassion inspired many.”

Born in Nain, Ms. Reelis spent much of her early life in Happy Valley Goose Bay where her father worked. She is a survivor of the residential school system in Labrador. She married and moved to St. John’s where she spent many years working in the health care field.

“As a residential school survivor, community leader, advocate, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Emma carried her experiences with dignity and used them to uplift others. Her contributions will not be forgotten, and her legacy will continue to be felt for generations to come,” said President Lampe.

“On behalf of the Nunatsiavut Government, I offer heartfelt condolences to Emma’s family and all who knew and loved her during this difficult time.”
