The Department of Language, Culture and Tourism is looking for seven (7) youth to attend the Youth Leadership Program at the Torngat Mountains Base Camp and Research Station.

About the Youth Leadership Program:

It is the intention of this program to mix all aspects of learning from the land in a holistic manner. Blending Indigenous knowledge with Western views in education to:

• provide an environment for youth to live harmoniously with the land, while providing leadership, responsibility, and respect for Inuit culture;
• empower youth to have pride and value for Elder knowledge, to build this knowledge and awareness to become a part of who you are;
• encourage learning as lifelong. By using Indigenous knowledge and their own schooling within context of formal schooling, participants should become aware that there are many ways to learn.
• build pride in Inuit ancestral heritage and traditions; and
• encourage youth to examine their own strengths in leadership, learning, and being able to collaboratively work with a group.

Youth Applicants:
The aim of the program will be to have youth representing each of Nunatsiavut’s seven (7) constituencies:

• Nain;
• Hopedale;
• Makkovik;
• Postville;
• Rigolet;
• Upper Lake Melville (Happy Valley Goose Bay, North West River, and Mud Lake); and
• Canadian Constituency

Ages: 15-30
